This last few weeks, I have been studying the gospel of John. In his writings, John calls us to believe Jesus more. Christ calls us to be living verbs. He calls us on the ongoing act of believing. Are we simply nouns-believers? Or are we also verbs-believing?
Many times in life God uses the smallest, most unexpected things or people to touch our lives and shape us for His glory.
When in ministry and reaching out to the hurting, the lost, the homeless, or the ones fighting addictions of this world, it can become very tiring and sometimes discouraging. “BUT” – God calls us to be His hands and His feet to the orphans, strangers, and the widows. So in obedience to the call we continue to sow seeds of His grace, mercy, and unconditional love.
Seven years ago, I had an overwhelming passion to serve and be used for Gods glory. I prayed with a longing heart for Him to reveal where He wanted to use me. I cried out for Him to show me a glimpse of His will.
I remember where I was when I cried out to Him telling Him that “I wanted my life to shine the His light somehow into this lost world. I knew I only had a moment on this earth and I wanted my life to count. Send me!!
My favorite song at the time was Mercy Me’s “Who Am I?” their version of Isaiah 6-
Whom shall I send?
Who will go for me to the ends of the earth
Who will rise up for the King
Here am I, send me
Here am I, send me
Whether foreign land or neighbors
Everyone’s the same
Searching for the answers
That lie within your name
I want to proclaim the love of Jesus
In all I do and say Unashamed”
Through the years, I was trying to find God’s purpose for me in every way: as a daughter, friend, sister, in a ministry, career, law school, FBI, in my passion for running or in my role as a mother and a wife. I struggled for many years trying to discover who God wanted me to be. After moving four times within two years, I really started to become discouraged. It wasn’t until I was preparing my parent’s church medical missions Honduras newsletter that God had awakened me.
Chris Tomlinson sings about a similar song…”Like the rising sun that shines, From the darkness comes a light, I hear Your voice and this is my awakening; For the world You love Your will be done, Let Your will be done in me”
It was at that time I realized that God had given me many opportunities to serve Him and be used for His glory. He made my ministry my family when I was in Arkansas and Florida. He allowed me to lead MOPS in Florida and help start MOPS in Alabama. He made away for me to work as a journalist to help proclaim His work during a time when our country had lost hope. He reminded me many times that my ministry is my family and that I am blessed and am to be obedient. He provided the opportunity for me to serve in a medial mission trip in Central America while learning to share my faith and the gospel to a lost world. Most importantly, He is running beside me and is directing my steps as I continue to grow and share my passion through the Run for God ministry.
In Isaiah 52:7 it reads “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news proclaiming peace and Your salvation.”
Here are the things God has showed me recently in His purpose He has made for me:
1. God has given us all a passion, gift, talent. He has also designed a place for that passion, gift, or talent to operate in.
2. More times that not God seems to hide this “place” among things unfamiliar to us and waits to see if we will have the faith to go to “that” place instead of staying in “this” place.
3. Once God has spoken to us about the “place” we have a decision to make. The body only goes where the mind already has. Abraham heard the call of God, but he still had to make up his mind and GO!
Now after living in Georgia after 3 years, I continue to pray and ask God to direct my steps and continue to be His hands and feet and remember that everything and everything I do can make a lasting mark of Christ’s love. God has given you a gift. Don’t become frustrated because you haven’t found where that gift belongs. Ask, Seek, Knock! The door will be opened….it just may be on the other side of the world. Are you ready? God has a place for YOU. Whether you’re in Mexico, Nicaragua, Scotland, Honduras, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida or Georgia.
