There is a promise of renewed strength found in Isaiah 40:31, “Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31).
There are often times in your training that you will become tired, discouraged and weary and have a yearning for your strength to be renewed. In this scripture, Isaiah is addressing people who are tired and weary. When we are tired and weary we can become discouraged and find it difficult to face decisions or to take another step forward, but in this scripture we find God’s promise: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” He gives us such wonderful strength. Such strength that it is illustrated as “soaring with wings like eagles.” This is a special promise and one to those whose hearts are inclined in a particular way: “Those who hope in the Lord.”
So what does it mean to hope in the Lord? I believe that it is a waiting period. Sometimes, it is a long wait. As an Run for God instructor, I have seen many individuals go through seasons where they have had to wait on the Lord. Perhaps it is injury related, or a backwards step in training or family illnesses. This can be very hard to watch someone go through, much less the person in the season, but also a wonderful time of reflection and growth. This also applies to our daily walk as well. There are times when we wait and wait and wait….and maybe are still waiting on God, but as we go through difficult times when He seems far away, if we don’t give up on Him, He will strengthen us, providing us with wings to fly like eagles. It’s the hope that keeps us soaring until He is ready to reveal Himself to us.
