Announcement: Fit Yourselves for the Heavenly Race

For over a year now, I have been praying how God can use me in spreading His message through running. They do seem to go hand in hand. One of my favorite verses is in Hebrew 12:1-3, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

In this scripture, the writer references that Christian discipleship is a race. Run the right race. The Apostle calls it “the race which is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1, that is, the race chalked out in the Word of God, the race of self-denial and sanctity. It is not any race—but the race set before us—which we must run.

After many years of running, I decided to set a goal…a heavenly goal, and fix my eyes on Jesus. Instead of striving to get the best PR (personal record), my desires changed. Instead, I wanted to better my PR–my personal relationship with Jesus and glorify God in my running. It is because of Him that I am able to run and do something I absolutely enjoy right? Why not use my joy and this God-given talent to glorify God and witness to others?

This was how the Faithful Trainer blog and devotional began over a year ago. Several months ago, I was blogging and I ran across the Run for God website. After reading up on it, I really felt that God was leading me in this direction. After many months of prayer and heart to hearts, I am excited to say, God has revealed himself to me in many ways and has opened many doors to allow this to happen (of course in God’s timing) in the Warner Robins/Macon area. If you are not already familiar with this program, this Run For God 5K Challenge, I would totally recommend you watch this video to experience the testimonials that will totally minister to your heart. (Click on the Run for God link below).

The Run for God 5K Challenge is a practical guide to running and a 12-week training plan aimed at running a 5K, with a Christian focus. Even though many people run for different reasons, this particular study is for those who want to make God the center of their lives—or need to be reminded to do so. “The tone is conversational and accessible, and the workout plans, discussion questions, and Bible verses make it both a practical resource and a workbook for individuals and groups, especially beginning runners. From advice about shoes and Christian music for ones MP3 player, to tips on race etiquette, the book will be useful and inspirational. You do not have to be an experienced runner or have ever run before to participate in this study. In fact, it’s targeted for those who want to start running or for those who would like to go a little further” – quoted from the Run For God website. The study can go even further to reach marathon levels. And if God is willing, I accept the journey of running right beside the others.

I am really excited to see this passion of running put into action of witnessing to others where it can glorify God. We are a part of the heavenly race. I encourage you all to join in and claim the prize-the heavenly prize of salvation. Faith and endurance? Yes we can! I believe because of the words of Isaiah 40:31, which says “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will be strong like eagles soaring upwards on wings; they will walk and run without getting tired.”
