Running Tracks: “Praise You In This Storm” by Casting Crowns

I may have already posted this song, but I found it fitting to my race on Saturday. Throughout my sickness, weakness, storms, and tornado sirens this Saturday, I was determined to complete this race that God had so faithfully prepared me for. This was more than a physical race, it had become a spiritual race. A spiritual journey in my faith. After the gun fired, the rain began to pour, I passed by my family who blew kisses and waved goodbye to me. I am sure they were probably wondering if I would make it to the finish line. I, myself, asked the same question. Through my weariness, I found strength from my devotions and time with God. Even though I was struggling to finish, I was determined to give God the glory till the end.

This song called “Praise You in this Storm,” by Casting Crowns says “you know God, I am struggling. I need you. I need your help. I don’t know how I am going to be able to take another step, but I know you are with me and I praise you for it!” I sang my heart out to this song during my race. And as I heard the thunder roll above me, I could barely hear His whispers, but I knew He was there. By mile 16, I felt His mercy fall on me and felt Him beside me even more clearly giving me the strength I needed to press on. When I passed the finish line, I raised my hands to the sky and praised God for a victory.

Here are the lyrics below:

I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say, Amen and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain, “I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands
And praise the God who gives and takes away

And I’ll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry, You raised me up again
But my strength is almost gone
How can I carry on if I can’t find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain, “I’m with you”
And as You mercy falls I raise my hands
And praise the God who gives and takes away

And I’ll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

And I’ll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
And though my heart is torn
